  • Project Description

Since 2018 Recycled Roadways has provided waste asphalt processing services at Heidelberg’s Bulls Lodge asphalt production plant in Essex. The works are scheduled on a campaign basis.

The site has a large processing area where large volumes of waste stock are built up between campaigns. Road plainings, hot returned asphalt and other asphalt wastes are brought to site by Heidelberg and contractors working on their behalf.

Our on-site presence, which includes a 36 tonne hybrid excavator, hybrid electric impact crusher, 3-way screener and loading shovel operated by two trained operatives, is fully integrated into the Bulls Lodge facility.

Our team mobilise to site and set up ready to crush and screen the waste asphalt into two grades of product for new asphalt production (0-10mm / 10-20mm). The resultant materials are laboratory-tested for compliance against specification for size and bitumen content.

We recycle around 30,000 tonnes of asphalt material for Heidelberg at Bulls Lodge each year.

In February 2024 we introduced our new RM120X hybrid electric crusher and RM 8500 E screener to the site. The set up is extremely fuel efficient with the screener powered by the crusher’s generator meaning it is not consuming diesel during production generating an overall fuel (and carbon) reduction of 30%. The crusher can be powered by mains supply electric if feasible to further reduce the facility’s carbon footprint.
